Instagram users can now enjoy Reels, longer videos and live broadcasts on their television screens, without having to mirror their smartphones. The social media platform has introduced a dedicated Instagram app for Apple TV, bringing its video-watching experience to a bigger screen.
The new app is designed primarily for users who enjoy watching Instagram content rather than creating or interacting with it. It allows viewers to explore Reels, watch longer videos, follow live shows and discover content from different creators. It also supports cross-device playback, meaning users can resume watching videos from where they left off.
However, the app does not offer all the features available on Instagram's mobile version. Users cannot upload posts, Reels or Stories through Apple TV. Direct messages and the comment section are also unavailable. Those who want to interact with creators or send messages will still need to use their smartphones.
How to Download Instagram on Apple TV
Installing the app is relatively simple. Users first need an Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K running tvOS 26 or a later version.
To download the app, open the App Store from the Apple TV home screen. Navigate to the Search section and type Instagram. Select the official Instagram app from the search results and click on the Get option. Once the installation is complete, open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to sign in.
Interestingly, users do not necessarily need an iPhone to install or run Instagram on Apple TV. However, the sign-in and account verification process may vary.
If Instagram does not appear in the App Store, users should check whether their Apple TV supports tvOS 26 or later. They can also visit Settings, select System, open Software Updates and install the latest available update.
With this launch, Instagram is expanding its presence beyond smartphones and tablets, making video consumption more convenient for users who prefer watching content on larger screens.
