Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav called for a united opposition movement against the BJP during his address at the INDIA bloc's mega rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, November 1. He said people across the country wanted opposition parties to come together and launch a collective movement for change.
Addressing the gathering, Akhilesh claimed that ordinary citizens were eager to join hands with the Opposition. He accused the BJP of attempting to shift the blame for its electoral setbacks onto others rather than accepting the people's verdict.
Taking a swipe at the BJP's performance in Uttar Pradesh, he said the people of Kashi had given the party a “Double Zero”. He also alleged that the BJP had faced defeat twice and questioned its attempts to defend its political position.
Raising concerns over the electoral process, Akhilesh referred to the Election Commission's actions amid public anger over voter-related issues. He also accused the BJP of manipulating votes in West Bengal, adding another dimension to the opposition's allegations surrounding electoral irregularities.
Recalling the political significance of Ramlila Maidan, the Samajwadi Party leader said the venue had witnessed historic movements in the past. He suggested that the current gathering could also become an important moment in the country's political journey.
Emphasising the need for opposition unity, Akhilesh said the people wanted a collective effort rather than fragmented political battles.
“This is now the time for change,” he declared, urging supporters and opposition leaders to come together. His address focused on electoral accountability, public participation and the INDIA bloc's call for a united political movement.
