New Delhi: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a series of attacks on the BJP during her address at the INDIA bloc's mega rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on Sunday. Highlighting opposition unity, she referred to Sonia Gandhi as “my leader” and Rahul Gandhi as a “young leader”, while calling for the BJP to be removed from power in the name of protecting democracy.
“We will not accept this. We will continue our fight. They have looted Bengal. We will protect democracy in Delhi,” Mamata declared, before raising the slogan, “BJP will go, will go, will go.”
Accusing the BJP of undermining democracy, Mamata claimed that the Opposition had not actually lost the elections but had been deliberately defeated. “We have not lost; we have been made to lose,” she said, reiterating allegations of electoral manipulation.
The Trinamool Congress supremo also accused the BJP of disrespecting the dignity of women in Bengal. She further alleged that funds meant for religious institutions, including temples and mosques, had been looted.
Taking a direct swipe at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Mamata used the nickname “Vanishing Kumar” and asked, “When will you vanish?” Her remarks came amid the ongoing political controversy over electoral rolls and voting rights.
She also repeated the slogan, “BJP Ka Saath, Sabka Sarvanash,” targeting the ruling party and questioning its political approach.
Towards the end of her address, Mamata appealed to Gen Z and members of the CJP to join hands in the fight to protect democracy.
By publicly acknowledging Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Mamata also highlighted the importance of unity within the INDIA bloc.
Her speech reflected the Opposition's broader political campaign around electoral rights, democratic institutions and the demand for political change. However, the allegations against the BJP were part of Mamata Banerjee's political statements at the rally.
