Abohar: In a major financial assistance initiative, the Punjab government has transferred Rs 1,291 crore directly into the bank accounts of more than 37.43 lakh women under the Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojna. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced the development during a large public gathering in Abohar on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Mann described the initiative as a social revolution aimed at strengthening women's financial independence, self-respect and dignity. He said the government's target was to bring one crore women across Punjab under the scheme. According to the Chief Minister, nearly 80 lakh registrations have already been completed.
Mann said the scheme was not merely about providing financial assistance but about empowering women to make independent financial decisions. He emphasised that the money was being transferred directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts to ensure transparency and eliminate middlemen.
The Chief Minister also shared details of the government's previous disbursements. Before Sunday's transfer, Rs 2,643.71 crore had been distributed among 76.35 lakh women. With the latest instalment of Rs 1,291 crore, the total financial assistance provided under the scheme has reached Rs 3,934.80 crore.
He further announced incentives for those involved in the registration process. Around 1,37,723 Satkar Sakhis will receive incentives worth Rs 51.30 crore, while Anganwadi workers will receive Rs 25 crore for their contribution.
Mann also promised that the next instalment would be transferred on December 1, followed by another payment on January 1. Eligible beneficiaries would receive three months' assistance together as a New Year gift.
Taking aim at the opposition Congress, BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal, the Chief Minister accused them of having little to offer Punjab's people. He expressed confidence that the Aam Aadmi Party would receive another opportunity to govern the state in the 2027 Assembly elections.
He also highlighted the government's initiatives in education, healthcare, employment, free electricity and sports infrastructure, claiming that more than 70,000 young people had received government jobs.
