A 26-year-old school teacher was allegedly killed at a private school in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, with police saying a relationship dispute and the alleged insistence of the accused on marrying her were among the apparent reasons behind the incident. The man accused of killing the teacher was also found dead later, police said.
The incident took place at Children's Academy school in Lakhimpur Kheri at around 11.30am on Monday. The deceased teacher was identified as Nishat Fatima. The accused was identified as Saud Ansari, who was reportedly acquainted with her.
An FIR has been registered against Ansari and his parents following a complaint filed by Fatima's brother, Shadab Akhtar. The case was registered at Lakhimpur Sadar Kotwali on Monday evening under Sections 103 and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to the complaint, Ansari had allegedly been harassing Fatima and repeatedly insisting that she marry him. Her family had reportedly approached Ansari and his parents and asked them to stop the alleged harassment. Police said those efforts did not resolve the matter.
Senior Superintendent of Police Khyati Garg said the investigation was underway and officers were examining the incident from all possible angles. She added that further facts would emerge as the investigation progresses.
Police said Ansari entered the school premises carrying firearms. CCTV footage reportedly showed him holding Fatima's hand and taking her towards the first floor of the school.
According to the police, an altercation subsequently took place between the two in a corridor near the senior KG classrooms. Fatima was allegedly killed during the incident. Ansari was later found dead.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths are being investigated, and police are examining CCTV footage and other available evidence to establish the sequence of events.
The role of Ansari's parents, who have been named in the FIR, will also be examined as part of the investigation. Police have not indicated at this stage what specific allegations against them may ultimately be established.
The incident has also prompted authorities to review security arrangements at schools in the area. SSP Khyati Garg said police would examine how an outsider was able to enter the school premises and measures would be taken to prevent unauthorised entry in the future.
Officials said corrective steps would be taken to strengthen security and ensure the safety of students and staff members.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police continuing to gather evidence and verify the allegations mentioned in the FIR. Further action will depend on the findings of the probe.
