US President Donald Trump has sparked fresh debate online after sharing an image claiming that the Moon belongs to the United States, alongside a post unveiling a new Space Force uniform.
Trump shared a picture of the Moon on Truth Social with the caption “The Moon is ours” and an American flag. The unusual post quickly drew reactions on social media, with users questioning the claim and making comparisons to science-fiction films.
In a separate post, Trump unveiled what was described as the new United States Space Force service dress uniform. The outfit features a grey-black colour scheme, a charcoal-coloured jacket and trousers, a black belt, boots and a matching cap.
The accompanying graphic said the design was inspired by the discipline and functionality of the Starship Troopers uniform while being modernised for the “Guardians of the Space Domain”.
The posts attracted a wide range of reactions online. Some users compared the new uniform to costumes from science-fiction movies, while others made controversial historical comparisons. One user joked that after failing to acquire Greenland or Iceland, the US was now targeting the Moon.
Trump’s posts also came amid another unusual social media campaign from the White House. An AI-generated video showed Trump wearing a glowing green power ring and projecting a green beam, in a reference to the fictional DC Comics superhero Green Lantern.
The White House shared the video along with the famous Green Lantern oath, including the line about evil being unable to escape the superhero’s sight.
In the AI-generated clip, Trump is shown using the green light in scenes connected to immigration and American manufacturing. The video prompted further discussion, with some social media users questioning whether the official government account was seriously posting superhero-themed content.
The Moon-related claim and the AI video quickly became subjects of online debate. Some users treated the posts as political messaging or satire, while others criticised the unusual style of the presidential communications.
Trump’s latest posts add to a series of unconventional social media messages that have generated significant attention both in the United States and internationally.
