Wamiqa fans question BMW gifts

Fans of actor Wamiqa Gabbi have questioned why she was left out after the producers of DC gifted brand-new BMW cars to three key members of the film’s team.

Directed by Arun Matheswaran, DC is a Tamil adaptation of Devdas and marked actor Lokesh Kanagaraj’s acting debut. Released in theatres in August, the film received positive reviews and reportedly crossed the ₹100 crore mark worldwide.

As a gesture to celebrate the film’s success, Sun Pictures head Kalanithi Maran presented new BMW cars to director Arun Matheswaran, Lokesh Kanagaraj and music composer Anirudh Ravichander. Sun Pictures shared a video of the three receiving the car keys and driving away in their new vehicles.

The gesture quickly became a topic of discussion among fans, particularly because Wamiqa Gabbi’s performance as Chandra was widely praised. Many viewers felt that the actor played an important role in the film and deserved similar recognition.

Several fans took to social media to question the decision. Some jokingly said that Wamiqa could at least have been given a scooter, while others pointed out that Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, who also played a major role in the film, did not receive a gift either.

One section of fans argued that the female leads had been overlooked despite contributing significantly to the movie. Some viewers even described Wamiqa as the “soul” of DC and said her performance was among the film’s biggest strengths.

The discussion also spread to Reddit, where viewers debated the decision to reward the male members of the team while leaving out the female actors. Many users praised Wamiqa’s performance and questioned whether the recognition could have been shared more equally among the principal cast.

In DC, Lokesh plays an outlaw named Devadas, or Das, while Wamiqa portrays Chandra, an exploited sex worker. Sanjana Krishnamoorthy plays Parvathy, a bar singer. The film takes a different approach to the classic Devdas story, with Das and Chandra becoming involved in a fight against corrupt police officers after the deaths of innocent people.

According to trade tracking website Sacnilk, DC has earned around ₹103.06 crore worldwide.

The BMW gifts were intended as a celebration of the film’s commercial success, but the decision has now sparked a wider conversation among fans about recognition for the entire cast and crew.

For Wamiqa’s supporters, the issue is less about the value of the gift and more about acknowledging the contribution of the actors who helped make the film successful.
