News Desk: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is set to change the schedule of its highest decision-making body, the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), from March 2027. Under the proposed organisational arrangement, the annual national meeting in Nagpur will be held once every three years, while regional meetings will take place in the intervening years.
The change is part of a broader organisational restructuring aimed at strengthening the organisation's presence across different regions and allowing greater attention to local issues. The new arrangement is expected to begin in March next year, according to people familiar with the development.
The ABPS is a key forum where senior RSS functionaries review organisational activities, assess the work of affiliated bodies and discuss future programmes. The three-day meeting also serves as a platform for adopting resolutions on important issues and setting priorities for the coming years.
Under the revised schedule, meetings will be organised across the RSS's nine Kshetras, or regions, over two years. In the third year, the national gathering will take place in Nagpur, which remains the organisation's headquarters.
The next national ABPS meeting is scheduled for March 2027 in Nagpur. The gathering is particularly significant because elections for senior organisational positions are conducted every three years.
Senior Leaders to Attend Regional Meetings
The regional meetings will be held over a period of two to three months. Senior RSS leaders, including Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat and general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, are expected to participate, although the final arrangements regarding their attendance are still being worked out.
The organisation believes that regional meetings will help its leadership focus more closely on local concerns, review ground-level activities and develop programmes suited to individual regions.
However, the RSS's national executive committee meeting will continue to be held annually. Its next meeting is scheduled for November in Indore.
Wider Organisational Restructuring
The revised meeting calendar follows earlier changes announced by the RSS to expand its organisational reach. Last year, the organisation introduced a structure replacing prant pracharaks with sambhag pracharaks, shifting greater emphasis towards division-level operations.
Under the restructuring, the number of full-time pracharaks is expected to increase from 46 to 85, while the number of kendras, or state-level organisational units, will decrease from 11 to nine.
Further organisational elections are expected following the November meeting. State units will elect their executive bodies and regional office-bearers, who will subsequently participate in the process of selecting senior leadership.
The last election for the post of RSS general secretary took place in 2024, when Dattatreya Hosabale was elected for a second term.
The changes mark a shift in how the RSS plans to coordinate its national leadership and regional activities, while retaining its established three-year election cycle.
