Actor Shobhinaw Satyaa is enjoying the success of Hanuman Ansh, but the sudden attention has not changed the way he wants to live. The 31-year-old actor, who plays spiritual guru Neem Karoli Baba in the film, says he prefers to keep his personal life away from the spotlight.
“People hardly know anything about me, and I want to remain like this,” Satyaa said. He described himself as reserved and revealed that before the film’s teaser was released, he had only a few Instagram posts and around 200 followers. His following has now grown to more than 225,000.
Satyaa says he takes inspiration from veteran actor Amrish Puri, particularly for the way he kept his private life away from public attention. For Satyaa, his faith in Hanumanji also plays an important role in how he approaches life and his career.
The actor’s journey to Hanuman Ansh began much earlier than the film itself. Around 10 years ago, while working as an assistant director on a student film at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, he stepped into the lead role when the original actor could not continue. Satyaa now sees that experience as an early sign of what was to come.
He had always wanted to make it as an actor but deliberately stayed away from small roles. After years of waiting, his performance as Neem Karoli Baba has now brought him recognition.
Despite the success, Satyaa says he is not rushing to sign new projects. He wants to focus first on helping the film and the story of Baba reach a wider audience. He is open to experimenting with different roles but says he will remain conscious of his personal values.
Satyaa also made it clear that he does not want to portray things that are far removed from his real-life principles. He said he does not use abusive language, smoke or drink and follows a satvik lifestyle. For him, acting convincingly means understanding and respecting the character.
Born in Khairabad, Sitapur, Satyaa moved to Lucknow after his father’s transfer. He studied there before pursuing graduation and acting courses, including training at the Opulent School of Acting & Films and a short course at FTII.
His family has been deeply moved by his performance. Yet Satyaa remains uncomfortable when fans touch his feet. He says he is only a servant of Neem Karoli Baba and would rather people offer their respect to Baba’s idol than to him.
For Satyaa, fame may have arrived suddenly, but he wants his life to remain simple and guided by his faith.
