News Desk: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has called for a ‘Chalo Dilli’ march at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1, intensifying the opposition’s campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
In a post on social media platform X on Sunday, Gandhi alleged that voters’ names had been deleted from electoral rolls and that rules and laws had been violated. He also criticised the alleged use of force against people raising questions about the process.
“Our votes are being stolen, and we will not tolerate this quietly under any circumstances,” Gandhi said, urging citizens to come forward to protect their voting rights and democratic values.
Calling for widespread participation, the Congress leader appealed to students, farmers, labourers, women, young people and traders to join the November 1 programme. The rally has been named the ‘Save the Vote – Save the Country Jan March and Mega Rally’.
Gandhi also took a swipe at the BJP and its allies, thanking them sarcastically for helping promote the programme and reach a wider audience. His remarks came amid escalating political tensions between the opposition and the ruling party over the electoral revision exercise.
The Delhi Police has granted permission to the Congress to hold the demonstration at Ramlila Maidan on November 1. According to the report, the party has reserved the venue from October 25 to November 3 to facilitate preparations for the event.
The proposed march is part of a broader opposition campaign against the Election Commission and the SIR process. Opposition parties have raised concerns over alleged discrepancies in voter lists and the deletion of names, while the controversy has become a major point of political confrontation.
Before the November 1 rally, the opposition INDIA bloc is also planning a ‘public impeachment’ programme against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 30. The event is expected to take place at Hotel Ashok in New Delhi and has been described as a mock Parliament, with opposition MPs and senior leaders likely to participate.
Congress leaders have said the demonstrations are intended to underline opposition unity and demand accountability over electoral processes. The party has also reviewed preparations for the rally, presenting it as a major mobilisation in defence of voting rights.
With the November 1 march approaching, the dispute over the SIR exercise is likely to remain at the centre of national political debate. The rally is expected to bring opposition leaders and supporters together in Delhi as they press their allegations against the Election Commission.
