Woman Shares How Losing 20 Kg Changed Her Life Beyond the Weighing Scale

Losing 20 kg changed much more than nutritionist Namita Satheesh’s weight. In a recent Instagram post, she opened up about how her weight-loss journey affected her confidence, clothing choices, social life, travel and relationship with food.

Namita reflected on her transformation in a post shared on September 15, explaining that she began feeling more comfortable in her body and became more willing to participate in experiences she had previously avoided.

One of the most noticeable changes, she said, was the way she dressed. Earlier, she often chose loose, baggy clothes to hide her body. After losing weight, she said she began choosing outfits based on what made her feel comfortable and good about herself.

She also became more comfortable wearing sports bras while working out. For Namita, this was part of a broader change in how she viewed her appearance.

Her physical activities also expanded. She started running, swimming and hiking and eventually took up backpacking. She said she was able to travel with a 10 kg backpack, something she associated with becoming physically stronger.

The transformation also influenced her social life. Namita said she began making more effort to dress up for special occasions and felt more confident meeting people. She described herself as previously being very shy but said travelling eventually became an opportunity to meet and interact with new people.

Another important part of her journey was her relationship with food. Namita said she felt she had developed a healthier relationship with eating and that she rarely engaged in emotional eating anymore.

She also said that becoming less conscious about her appearance allowed her to say yes to more experiences. Rather than worrying about how she looked, she became more willing to travel, socialise and try new activities.

Her experience highlights that weight loss can involve changes beyond physical appearance. Increased physical activity, greater comfort with clothing, changes in social behaviour and a different relationship with food can all form part of an individual's personal experience.

However, weight-loss journeys are different for everyone, and changes in confidence or lifestyle cannot necessarily be attributed to weight loss alone. Sustainable health goals generally depend on an individual's overall physical and mental wellbeing rather than a particular number on the weighing scale.

Namita's account is based on her own experience shared on social media. Hindustan Times noted that the claims had not been independently verified and that the story was intended for informational purposes rather than as medical advice.
