Aryaveer Sehwag Shines as India Crush Nepal by 10 Wickets in U-19 Asia Cup Opener

India began their Under-19 Asia Cup campaign in impressive fashion, defeating Nepal by 10 wickets in a Group A encounter in Muscat, Oman, on Friday. Aryaveer Sehwag, son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, stole the spotlight with an aggressive unbeaten half-century, while captain Lakshya Raichandani also scored a valuable fifty. The opening pair chased down Nepal's target without losing a single wicket.

After winning the toss, Indian captain Lakshya elected to bowl first, and his decision quickly paid off. India's bowlers dominated the early stages of Nepal's innings, with Ishan Sud leading the attack.

Ishan started with a maiden over before dismissing Prasiddh Jaisi for just one run. He then removed Suryanshu Koirala, who managed only five runs. Nepal suffered another setback when Nishal Chhetri was dismissed, leaving the team struggling at 27 runs for three wickets. At the end of 10 overs, Nepal had managed just 30 runs.

Neeraj Kumar Yadav and Darsh Sonar attempted to rebuild the innings, while Ashish Luhar also contributed with an important 29-run knock. Darsh and Ashish added 43 runs together, helping Nepal recover from the early collapse.

However, Yashbir Gaur broke their partnership. Darsh eventually emerged as Nepal's highest scorer with 43 runs, but the lack of support from the other batters prevented the team from posting a competitive total.

Ishan Sud finished with impressive figures of three wickets for just 18 runs in his 10 overs. Arun Rajput also claimed three wickets, while Yashbir Gaur picked up two. Manal Chauhan and Kavya Patel took one wicket each.

Nepal were eventually bowled out for 128 in 42.3 overs.

Aryaveer Sehwag Takes Charge With the Bat

Chasing 129, India initially took some time to settle before the openers began attacking the Nepal bowlers. Lakshya played some elegant shots, while Aryaveer gradually shifted gears and displayed the aggressive batting style associated with his father.

Aryaveer accelerated his innings with consecutive boundaries in an over from Sushil Rawal. He then struck a massive six off Abhay Yadav to reach his half-century in just 34 balls.

The young opener remained unbeaten on 70 from 52 deliveries, smashing seven fours and four sixes. His confident strokeplay ensured that Nepal's bowlers had very little opportunity to make a comeback.

At the other end, captain Lakshya Raichandani played a composed innings, scoring an unbeaten 53 from 63 balls, including four boundaries.

The two openers shared an unbeaten partnership and guided India to 129 without losing a wicket in just 19.1 overs.

Pakistan Challenge Awaits India

The comprehensive victory gives India an excellent start to their U-19 Asia Cup campaign. However, a much bigger challenge awaits the team on Sunday, when they face arch-rivals Pakistan in their next match.

Cricket fans will particularly be watching Aryaveer Sehwag and Anvay Dravid, son of former India captain Rahul Dravid. With the sons of two legendary Indian cricketers featuring in the same squad, expectations are naturally high.

After an impressive opening performance against Nepal, Aryaveer has already given fans a glimpse of his batting potential. The upcoming clash against Pakistan will provide another opportunity for India's young stars to make their mark.
