Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor C Joseph Vijay and actor Ajith Kumar shared a warm moment at the Le Mans race in Silverstone, England, on Saturday, attracting huge attention from fans.
Vijay attended the event to wave the ceremonial green flag, while Ajith Kumar competed in the race with his team. Trisha Krishnan and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Aadhav Arjuna were also present.
The meeting between Vijay and Ajith became one of the biggest talking points of the event, particularly because their fans have often been divided over an alleged rivalry between the two stars for decades.
Ahead of the race, Vijay was seen running towards Ajith with a smile before embracing him. Videos of the reunion quickly spread across social media, with fans celebrating the unexpected display of friendship between two of Tamil cinema's biggest stars.
Vijay later gifted Ajith a miniature race car. He signed the model with a personal message that read, “Priyamudan (With Love) Vijay to my lovely brother Ajith.” Ajith accepted the gift and shook hands with Vijay.
Ajith also had a gift for Vijay. The actor presented him with a helmet carrying a short message: “Love Ajith.”
The interaction received an enthusiastic response from fans gathered at Silverstone. Some supporters even began chanting “TVK” from the stands. Vijay, however, appeared to gesture towards the crowd and encourage them to cheer for Ajith instead, highlighting that the occasion was about supporting his fellow actor and friend.
Trisha was also seen with Vijay and Ajith at their team tent before the race. After waving the green flag, Vijay watched the competition from a balcony, where he was later joined by Trisha and Aadhav Arjuna.
Ajith competed in a field of 44 participants and finished 38th overall. Although his final position was not among the leading places, his participation attracted considerable attention because of his long-standing interest in motorsport.
The presence of Vijay at the race added another layer of excitement. Fans who had grown up watching the two actors compete for box-office dominance were particularly thrilled to see them share such a friendly moment.
Sports commentators also drew comparisons between the Tamil stars and Hollywood actors Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, pointing to the scale of their popularity. The discussion even led to speculation about whether Ajith could eventually explore racing through a film centred on F2.
Ajith was last seen in Vidaamuyarchi and Good Bad Ugly, both featuring Trisha. His upcoming projects include Dare Devil.
Vijay's most recent film was Jana Nayagan, which was released in theatres on July 23 after delays related to censorship issues and an online leak.
For fans, however, the biggest highlight of the Silverstone outing was not the race result. It was the reunion between two of Tamil cinema's most popular stars, with Vijay's affectionate “lovely brother” message and the pair's public camaraderie offering a memorable break from the rivalry that has long surrounded their fandoms.
