Imran Khan Meets Lawyer After Seven Months in Adiala Jail

After nearly seven months, Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan has finally met his lawyer inside Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail. His wife, Bushra Bibi, also met the lawyer during the visit. The meeting took place on Monday, with discussions focusing on several ongoing legal cases against the jailed couple. However, the lawyer said the 40-minute meeting was not long enough to discuss all the legal matters in detail.

The lawyer, Salman Safdar, who represents Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), confirmed the meeting in a social media post. He said he had met Imran after seven months and Bushra Bibi after 11 months.

According to Safdar, both Imran and Bushra discussed their health conditions and the circumstances in which they are living inside the prison. They also provided fresh instructions regarding several ongoing cases and legal issues.

Safdar indicated that the limited duration of the meeting made it difficult to cover every matter requiring legal attention. He said both prisoners had shared details about their physical well-being and living conditions.

Court Orders and Restrictions on Meetings

Imran Khan, 74, has been in prison since August 2023 in connection with multiple criminal cases. His wife, Bushra Bibi, was arrested on January 17, 2025, in a separate case. Both were subsequently convicted in proceedings related to the case.

Under an Islamabad High Court order, Imran Khan is permitted to meet his family members, lawyers and close associates twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, PTI leaders have repeatedly alleged that despite these judicial directions, access to the former prime minister has remained restricted in recent months.

PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said several applications had previously been submitted before the court seeking permission for the meeting. The latest visit reportedly followed those legal applications.

Safdar's previous publicly reported meeting with Imran Khan took place on April 8 this year. An earlier meeting on February 10 had also taken place following a Supreme Court directive.

Concerns Over Imran Khan's Health

Imran Khan's health has remained a subject of concern and political debate in Pakistan. Towards the end of January, reports emerged that he was suffering from Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO), an eye condition affecting blood flow through the retina. He received treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

However, his family has reportedly demanded that he be transferred to a hospital of his choice for further treatment.

Multiple Cases Against the Former Prime Minister

Imran Khan is facing several legal cases, including those related to the Toshakhana gifts controversy and the Al-Qadir Trust case involving allegations of corruption linked to £190 million.

In the Al-Qadir Trust case, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 14 years in prison. They also received separate prison sentences in another Toshakhana-related case in December 2025.

Additionally, the PTI founder remains involved in several terrorism-related cases connected to the violence of May 9, 2023.

The latest meeting has renewed attention on Imran Khan's prison conditions, access to legal representation and the progress of the cases against him.
