Patrick Clancy’s new wife, Rachel Danis, has publicly defended him amid criticism and allegations surrounding the tragic deaths of his three children and the legal proceedings involving his former wife, Lindsay Clancy.
Rachel Danis, an infertility specialist who married Patrick in April, is set to appear with him in an upcoming episode of 60 Minutes. The appearance is expected to be Patrick’s first public statement since the mistrial in Lindsay Clancy’s homicide case.
In a preview of the programme released Friday, Danis rejected what she described as distorted accounts of her relationship with Patrick. She said she viewed him as a deeply supportive partner and a devoted father.
Danis also addressed criticism surrounding how the couple met and their decision to begin a relationship. She said she met Patrick while running in Central Park on a cold Saturday and defended their relationship against those who have questioned its circumstances.
The controversy comes against the backdrop of a highly publicised criminal case involving Lindsay Clancy, Patrick’s former wife. In 2023, Patrick returned to the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, where he discovered their three children unresponsive.
The children were identified as Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months old. Prosecutors alleged that Lindsay had killed the children by suffocation using exercise bands before attempting suicide by jumping from a second-floor window.
Lindsay survived the suicide attempt but suffered serious injuries. She subsequently faced homicide charges over the deaths of the three children.
Her trial lasted seven weeks but ended in a mistrial on September 4 after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict following seven days of deliberations.
A central issue during the trial was Lindsay’s mental state at the time of the killings. Her lawyers argued that she should be acquitted on the grounds of insanity and maintained that she was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis.
According to the report, 10 of the 11 jurors agreed that Lindsay had been suffering from acute postpartum psychosis, but the remaining juror did not agree, preventing a unanimous decision.
Patrick had previously testified about Lindsay’s deteriorating mental health before the deaths. During the proceedings, he described her efforts to seek professional help and recounted the moment he discovered her after her fall from the family home.
A 911 recording played in court captured Patrick’s reaction after discovering his children. The recording became one of the emotional moments of the trial.
Following the mistrial, Patrick has faced public criticism and online speculation about the tragedy and his personal life. Danis has now rejected what she considers unfair allegations and defended Patrick’s role as a father and partner.
The couple’s appearance on 60 Minutes is expected to provide further insight into Patrick’s perspective following the conclusion of the first trial. However, the legal case surrounding Lindsay Clancy remains unresolved after the mistrial.
