New Delhi: Union Health Minister and senior BJP leader JP Nadda on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the INDIA bloc over its 'Chalo Dilli' rally at Ramlila Maidan, describing the gathering as a "foolish and designed drama". He also claimed that the event would mark the final "nail in the coffin" of the Congress's political future.
In a statement, Nadda accused the opposition alliance of pursuing political objectives under the cover of a protest. He alleged that the rally was part of a carefully planned conspiracy aimed at creating instability and undermining democratic institutions.
According to Nadda, the opposition's activities were intended to replace a democratically elected government through alleged attempts to encourage unrest and disorder in the national capital.
He also raised concerns over the potential economic impact of the gathering, particularly on small traders and shopkeepers during the festive season.
"Removing the democratically elected government by conspiring to spread riots and anarchy in Delhi, adversely impacting the earnings of shopkeepers and traders in Delhi during the festive season and defaming the country are other objectives of the rally," Nadda said.
His remarks came amid an escalating political confrontation between the BJP and the Congress-led INDIA bloc over Sunday's rally.
The opposition gathering saw the participation of several prominent leaders, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav and other INDIA bloc representatives.
The rally was organised around concerns relating to voting rights, electoral processes and the functioning of democratic institutions. Opposition leaders have accused the authorities of undermining voters' rights, while the BJP has questioned the intentions behind the protest.
Nadda's statement added to the war of words between the ruling party and the opposition, with both sides presenting sharply different interpretations of the rally's purpose and its implications for the country's political climate.
