New Delhi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday described the INDIA bloc's rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan as a gathering of massive proportions, calling it a "sea of humanity".
The remark came as opposition leaders and supporters from different parts of the country assembled at the historic venue for the INDIA bloc's 'Chalo Delhi' rally.
Ramlila Maidan witnessed a significant influx of participants, with large crowds gathering inside and around the venue. The rally brought together several prominent opposition leaders, including Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.
Taking to the occasion, Ramesh highlighted the scale of public participation through his brief description of the gathering. His expression reflected the large turnout witnessed at the venue.
The rally is centred on opposition parties' concerns over electoral processes and the protection of voting rights. Leaders from the INDIA bloc have used the platform to raise questions about democracy, the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The gathering also comes amid growing political exchanges between the ruling BJP and opposition parties over the rally's purpose, public participation and its possible impact on businesses in Delhi.
With leaders from multiple political parties sharing the same platform, the event has become a significant demonstration of the opposition alliance's collective presence in the national capital.
