Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday extended birthday greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who turned 76. In a post on X, Meloni described Modi as her friend and wished him “health, energy, and success”.
Meloni also highlighted the relationship between India and Italy, saying the two countries are continuing to strengthen their friendship and work together towards greater cooperation and prosperity.
Her message came as several world leaders and political figures sent greetings to Modi on his birthday. Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump also extended their wishes earlier in the day.
Putin praised Modi’s contribution to India-Russia relations and said the Prime Minister enjoys respect among Indians as well as influence on the global stage. The US Embassy in India, posting on behalf of President Trump, wished Modi good health and happiness in the coming year.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also sent birthday greetings. He referred to Modi’s leadership and said India-Israel ties had become stronger, while expressing hope that the partnership between the two countries would reach greater heights.
Indian political leaders across parties also joined the birthday greetings. Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi posted a brief message wishing Modi good health and a long life.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay also conveyed his birthday wishes, describing Modi as the Prime Minister of India and wishing him a long life filled with good health.
Several senior leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party also greeted the Prime Minister. These included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP president Nitin Nabin. BJP MP Raghav Chadha also extended his greetings.
The birthday messages came amid events and programmes being held across India to mark Modi’s 76th birthday. His birthday has also been accompanied by a series of government and party-related programmes.
Meloni’s message adds to the international greetings for Modi, while also putting the focus on the continuing diplomatic relationship between India and Italy. Both countries have been seeking to expand cooperation across areas including trade, investment, technology and other sectors.
The exchange of greetings also reflects the diplomatic engagement between India and several major countries, with leaders highlighting bilateral relations while marking the Prime Minister’s birthday.
