No More Omar Abdullah, No More 'NC in Budgam’: Ruhullah’s Supporters

Supporters claim several NC legislators owe their electoral victories to Ruhullah’s campaigning

Srinagar, November 3: Supporters of National Conference (NC) leader Agha Ruhullah, who gathered at a venue where he is scheduled to announce his future political course, on Tuesday claimed that his campaigning played a significant role in the victory of several party candidates in the 2024 Assembly elections.

Speaking to media persons, the supporters said that several leaders who had repeatedly sought Ruhullah's support during the election campaign were now questioning his political relevance.

"These are the same leaders who repeatedly requested Agha Sahib to campaign for them during the 2024 elections. Today, they may ask who Agha is and where he comes from, but time will tell who he really is," a supporter said.

The supporters claimed that NC candidates from Pattan, Zadibal, Sonawari, Beerwah and Anantnag East, including MLA Majid Larmi, benefited significantly from Ruhullah's campaigning and might not have won their respective constituencies without his support.

They also mentioned Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, claiming that Ruhullah's campaign efforts had contributed to the electoral success of several party candidates.

A supporter from Ichgam village, when asked whether Agha Ruhullah was right in resigning from the party and his parliamentary seat, said that he supported the decision.

"Yes, he has done the right thing. He is a messiah of the poor and has always raised his voice for the downtrodden. We are confident that he will continue to highlight their issues and stand by them in the future," he said.

The supporters also expressed strong reservations about the National Conference's future electoral prospects in Budgam and Beerwah, claiming that the party would struggle to regain public support in these constituencies.

"No more Omar Abdullah, no more National Conference in Budgam," they said, expressing confidence that the party would not be able to win the constituency in future elections.

Reaffirming their support for Ruhullah, they said they would stand firmly by him regardless of the political circumstances.

"We can give our blood for Agha Ruhullah Sahib. Whatever decision he takes, we will stand with him," the supporters said.
