Indian Student Goes Missing in Boston After Stepping Out for a Walk, Family Seeks Help

Soumyajyoti Mandal, Kolkata: A 23-year-old Indian student from Telangana has gone missing in Boston, United States, triggering concern among her family members and prompting a search by local police. The student, identified as Koya Sreeja Reddy, was last seen on November 2 after leaving her residence for a walk. Her mobile phone has reportedly remained switched off since her disappearance.

Sreeja, a native of Shabdullapuram village in Kanagal Mandal of Nalgonda district, Telangana, travelled to the US around one-and-a-half years ago to pursue higher education. She is currently studying at the University of Massachusetts Boston and was also working part-time.

According to reports, Sreeja left her residence in the Edison Green area of Dorchester at around 9:45 pm on November 2. She reportedly went out for a walk but never returned. Her family became increasingly worried after repeated attempts to contact her failed.

The Boston Police Department issued a missing-person alert on November 4, seeking assistance from the public to trace the student. Police believe she could be in the vicinity of Carson Beach or Harbor Point. Her last known location was reportedly near her residence.

Sreeja's father, Koya Yadagiri Reddy, said the family had been desperately waiting for information about their daughter. He mentioned that she had recently visited India and stayed with her family for a month before returning to the US to continue her studies.

The disappearance has also prompted intervention from the Telangana government. State Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has urged the Indian Consulate in Boston, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Boston Police Department to extend all possible assistance in locating the missing student.

Meanwhile, authorities have appealed to anyone with information about Sreeja's whereabouts to contact the Boston Police Department.

The circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear, while her family continues to hope for her safe return.
