Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, mocking his Prime Ministerial ambitions and alleging that he would have to remain the “Prime Minister of a fake Parliament” as he would never get the opportunity to lead the country through the real Parliament.
Addressing a public gathering during an official programme in Chandigarh on Sunday, Shah criticised the Congress and its opposition alliance over their recent political activities, including a gathering at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan and a mock parliamentary session reportedly organised by opposition leaders.
“If Rahul Gandhi wants to become Prime Minister, he will have to remain in a fake Parliament throughout his life. He will never get that opportunity in the real Parliament,” Shah remarked.
Taking a further dig at the Congress leadership, the Home Minister claimed that the opposition had suffered electoral setbacks in three consecutive elections over the past 15 years. He also alleged that Sonia Gandhi's aspiration to see her son Rahul Gandhi become Prime Minister remained unfulfilled, prompting the opposition to organise such political exercises.
Shah Raises 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots Issue
Shah also questioned the timing of the Congress-led opposition's rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1, referring to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi, in which thousands of Sikhs were brutally killed.
He accused the opposition of choosing a deeply painful day for the Sikh community to hold a political gathering.
“The country will never forget that you organised a political rally on the anniversary of the Sikh massacre. This is like rubbing salt into the wounds of the Sikh martyrs,” Shah said.
