Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu has opened up about her pregnancy, describing it as a surprise and saying that she and filmmaker Raj Nidimoru had previously come to terms with the possibility of not having children.
Samantha and Raj are expecting their first child together. The couple made their relationship official in December 2025 and announced in June 2026 that they were going to become parents.
In a recent interview with THR India, Samantha said that both she and Raj were comfortable with whatever the future held. She explained that they had reached a point where they were prepared for either possibility—having children or not having them. Her pregnancy, therefore, came as an unexpected but happy development.
The actor also spoke about the moment she discovered she was pregnant while working on the song Thassadiya. She said she had only recently found out and was already experiencing some sickness when she had to perform the energetic dance sequence. Despite the circumstances, Samantha said she is now genuinely excited about becoming a mother.
She added that people often tell her that having a child completely changes one's life and said she feels ready to embrace that change.
Samantha's pregnancy also became a consideration during the final stages of filming her movie Maa Inti Bangaaram, which was released in June, shortly before she publicly announced her pregnancy.
Director Nandini Reddy, who is also Samantha's close friend, had earlier revealed that most of the film's action sequences had already been completed when Samantha discovered she was pregnant. However, some portions, including the song and a car chase sequence, were still pending.
The filmmakers took additional precautions during the shoot to make sure Samantha was comfortable and did not become overly exhausted. Breaks were provided, and outdoor filming was planned to avoid excessive heat and strenuous conditions.
Samantha and Raj had previously worked together on Citadel: Honey Bunny, released in 2024. Their relationship had been the subject of speculation before they officially confirmed it.
Samantha's personal life has received considerable public attention since her divorce from actor Naga Chaitanya became public in 2021. Her relationship with Raj gradually became more visible through social media appearances before the couple made their relationship official.
Now, as they prepare to welcome their first child, Samantha says she is looking forward to the major new chapter in her life.
