Gurugram Police has added an attempt to murder charge against Kalyan Bainsla, who allegedly rammed his car into a woman biker following a road-rage incident on Golf Course Road. The development came on Tuesday, a day after an FIR was initially registered in connection with the incident.
The case involves a Delhi woman, identified as Sia, who was riding her Aprilia sportbike with a group of other riders when the incident allegedly took place early Sunday. According to her account, the driver of a white Maruti Ciaz came dangerously close to her bike and repeatedly signalled her to stop.
Sia later shared a video describing what happened. The footage showed the aftermath of the incident and quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread attention to the case. Following the circulation of the video, Gurugram Police took suo motu cognisance of the matter and began investigating the incident.
The FIR was initially registered on Monday under Sections 125 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Section 125 deals with an act that endangers the life or personal safety of others, while Section 281 relates to rash driving or riding on a public way.
On Tuesday, police added Section 109 of the BNS to the FIR. The section relates to an attempt to murder, significantly escalating the charges against the accused.
The police action came after allegations that the car was deliberately driven into the motorcycle. Sia had claimed that the driver continued to chase her after she asked him to maintain a safe distance. According to her account, the driver kept making hand gestures and asking her to stop.
The incident has raised concerns over road rage and dangerous driving, particularly on busy stretches of Gurugram. The alleged confrontation reportedly escalated from a road-related disagreement into a collision that left the woman injured.
The accused, however, has denied intentionally hitting the bikers. In his statement, Bainsla said, “I did not hit them intentionally.” His claim will now be examined as part of the police investigation.
The viral video has become an important part of the case, bringing the incident to wider public attention and prompting questions about what happened immediately before the collision. Police are expected to examine the available video footage and other evidence while investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The addition of the attempt to murder section means the allegations against Bainsla are now more serious than those in the original FIR. The investigation will determine whether the evidence supports the charge and establish the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash.
As the case progresses, police will continue examining statements, footage and other available evidence. The incident has also renewed discussions around responsible driving, road rage and the safety of two-wheeler riders on Gurugram's roads.
