Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis felicitated comedian Samay Raina at an event in Mumbai where the trailer of the cyber-awareness film ‘Operation 1930’ was launched on Wednesday.
The event, organised by Maharashtra Cyber at the Sahyadri Guest House, focused on raising awareness about cyber fraud, particularly the growing threat of digital arrest scams. Fadnavis also unveiled the 1930 Cyber Anthem, aimed at encouraging citizens to stay alert and report cybercrime without delay.
Samay Raina was among several well-known personalities associated with the campaign. Actors Javed Jaffrey, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sharad Kelkar, Sonali Bendre and Mangesh Desai, along with singer Sunidhi Chauhan, were also present and felicitated for their contribution to the cyber-awareness initiative.
Raina's presence at the event attracted particular attention because of his earlier run-in with Maharashtra Cyber during the controversy surrounding his YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’. While accepting the felicitation, the comedian referred to his previous association with the cyber cell in his trademark humorous style.
Raina joked that his relationship with Maharashtra Cyber was “very old” and praised the department for being highly active. He also made a light-hearted reference to the 1930 cybercrime helpline, saying he had saved the number because he often received calls from the cyber authorities. His comments drew laughter from those present at the event.
Speaking at the programme, Fadnavis stressed that public awareness is crucial in the fight against cybercrime. He said artists, actors and singers can play an important role in taking cyber-safety messages to a wider audience.
The Chief Minister warned citizens against fraudsters who impersonate police officers, CBI officials or judges and threaten victims with arrest through video calls or other digital platforms. He urged people not to panic or transfer money when confronted with such threats and to immediately contact the 1930 helpline in cases of cyber fraud.
The Operation 1930 campaign seeks to make people more aware of digital arrest scams and other forms of online fraud. Through films, music and celebrity participation, Maharashtra Cyber aims to take the message of digital safety to a larger section of the public.
The event thus combined entertainment with a serious public-safety message, with Raina and other prominent personalities lending their reach to Maharashtra's efforts to strengthen cybercrime awareness.
