Veteran actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar passed away at the age of 75 on Thursday, October 8, 2026, following a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. He was reportedly found unconscious and was taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him with CPR for around 45 minutes. He was declared dead at approximately 5:20 am.
Born in 1951, Nana Patekar built a remarkable career spanning Hindi and Marathi cinema. Known for his intense screen presence, powerful dialogue delivery and extraordinary ability to portray complex characters, he became one of Indian cinema’s most distinctive performers. His journey began with the 1978 film Gaman, followed by memorable performances in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Tirangaa, Khamoshi: The Musical, Welcome and Natsamrat.
His performances earned him three National Film Awards, while his contribution to Indian cinema was also recognised with the Padma Shri in 2013. Beyond acting, Patekar worked as a filmmaker and screenwriter and remained connected with theatre and social causes. His work through the Naam Foundation also reflected his commitment to supporting farmers and rural communities.
