Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis felicitated actors Javed Jaffrey and Abhishek Banerjee during the launch of the trailer of Operation 1930, a new cyber-awareness film focused on the growing threat of digital arrest scams.
The event was held in Mumbai on Wednesday and was organised as part of Maharashtra Cyber’s efforts to increase public awareness about online fraud and cybercrime. Fadnavis also unveiled the “1930 Cyber Anthem”, aimed at encouraging citizens to report cyber fraud quickly and seek help through the state’s cybercrime helpline.
The trailer of Operation 1930 highlights the dangers associated with digital arrest scams, in which fraudsters impersonate police officers, government officials or other authorities and threaten victims with arrest or legal action. Such scams have become an increasingly serious cybercrime concern, with criminals using phone calls and video calls to intimidate victims and extort money.
The launch event brought together several well-known personalities from the film and entertainment industry. Javed Jaffrey and Abhishek Banerjee were among the celebrities associated with Maharashtra Cyber’s awareness initiative. Actors Ashish Vidyarthi, Pankaj Tripathi, Sonali Bendre and Mangesh Desai, along with singer Sunidhi Chauhan, were also present. Maharashtra Cyber brand ambassadors Sharad Kelkar and Javed Jaffrey attended the programme alongside senior officials and other dignitaries.
Fadnavis stressed the importance of making people more aware of cyber threats as digital transactions and online services become increasingly common. The initiative seeks to make cyber safety messages easier for the public to understand and encourage people to act quickly when they encounter suspicious activity.
The number “1930” has particular significance in the campaign as it is the national cybercrime helpline number used by citizens to report financial cyber fraud. Quick reporting can help authorities initiate action and potentially prevent further loss of money.
The event also featured comedian Samay Raina, who was felicitated by Fadnavis. Raina used the occasion to make light-hearted references to his earlier interaction with Maharashtra Cyber following the controversy surrounding his show India’s Got Latent.
With Operation 1930, Maharashtra Cyber is attempting to combine entertainment with public education, using popular film personalities to spread awareness about digital arrest scams and other forms of online fraud. The campaign aims to encourage citizens to remain cautious, avoid sharing sensitive information and report suspected cybercrime without delay.
