Actors Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday with a pledge to support a public welfare initiative in Mumbai. The couple announced that they will help refurbish 20 schools run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Alia shared the announcement on social media on September 17, along with a birthday message for Prime Minister Modi. She wished him a healthy and fulfilling year ahead and said that she and Ranbir wanted to mark the occasion by contributing to the community.
Under the initiative, the 20 schools will be selected based on recommendations from the BMC. The proposed refurbishment is aimed at improving the learning environment and creating better-equipped spaces for students.
In her message, Alia highlighted the importance of collective efforts and community service. She said the couple would support the renovation of the selected schools to help create better spaces where children can learn and grow.
The initiative, called the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, began on September 17 and is scheduled to continue for a month. The campaign includes a range of public welfare activities, including blood donation and health camps, cleanliness drives and plantation programmes. The initiative is also being associated with Prime Minister Modi’s 25 years in public life.
The announcement comes as several Bollywood personalities shared birthday messages for the Prime Minister. Salman Khan wished him on social media, referring to him as “PM Sahab” and ending his message with “Jai Hind”.
Shah Rukh Khan also extended his birthday wishes, hoping for the Prime Minister’s good health, happiness and fulfilment. Akshay Kumar shared a message in Hindi and linked the occasion with the idea of helping people in need.
Other film personalities, including Mohanlal, Ranveer Singh, Kangana Ranaut and Jackie Shroff, also posted birthday messages for Modi.
Alia and Ranbir’s school refurbishment pledge adds an entertainment-industry initiative to the month-long campaign. The project will involve schools recommended by the civic body, with the focus on improving facilities and learning spaces for children.
On the professional front, Alia was most recently seen in Alpha alongside Sharvari. She is also set to appear with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love And War, which is scheduled for release in 2027.
Alia is also associated with the upcoming production Don’t Be Shy, which is set to release on Prime Video.
The refurbishment project will now move forward with the identification of the 20 BMC schools and planning for the proposed improvements. The initiative places education and school infrastructure among the public-service activities being highlighted through the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
