News Desk: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday directed officials to accelerate relief operations, restore electricity and ensure early compensation for people affected by Cyclone Arnab. The state government is continuing restoration work across affected areas, with instructions to provide assistance until normal conditions return.
Naidu reviewed the situation during a teleconference with district collectors and officials from various departments. He stressed that electricity supply must be restored in all cyclone-hit areas and that damage assessments should be completed quickly to prevent delays in compensation.
Officials informed the chief minister that a preliminary report on the damage caused by the cyclone would be submitted on Thursday. Naidu directed the administration to expedite assessments and ensure that eligible affected people receive compensation. Crop losses will be handled separately, as the government has already issued an order regarding compensation for other damage.
The chief minister praised officials for their response during the cyclone and emphasised the importance of proper planning and timely assistance during natural disasters.
Farmers face losses across several regions
Naidu said Andhra Pradesh was dealing with different agricultural challenges in different parts of the state. Rayalaseema has been facing unfavourable conditions for sowing crops due to the impact of El Niño, while Cyclone Arnab has affected other regions.
Farmers in North Andhra, coastal districts and the Godavari river region have suffered damage to standing crops and coconut trees. The chief minister asked agriculture officials, scientists and students to examine whether waterlogged crops could be saved and identify measures to minimise further losses.
He also directed officials to assess whether uprooted coconut trees and other horticultural crops could be replanted. Suitable schemes should be implemented to support affected farmers and help them recover from the damage.
Electricity restoration and road clearance prioritised
The chief minister instructed officials to remove fallen trees from roads immediately and clear debris left behind by the cyclone. He also called for precautions to prevent breaches in tanks and canals, which could worsen flooding and create additional problems for residents.
Naidu urged departments to use technology to speed up crop damage assessments and ensure that compensation reaches eligible beneficiaries without unnecessary delays.
He also directed officials to keep the public informed about restoration efforts and relief measures so that residents could cooperate with the administration during the recovery process.
The government has said relief and restoration work will continue until normalcy returns to cyclone-affected areas. With agricultural losses, damaged infrastructure and electricity disruptions among the key concerns, the immediate focus remains on restoring essential services and helping affected families and farmers recover.
