Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has launched a fresh attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that foreign support played a role in bringing him to power and continues to sustain his government. Rahul has also challenged the Prime Minister to participate in an open public debate, triggering a fresh political confrontation between the ruling party and the opposition.
Speaking at a public gathering at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on Monday, Rahul Gandhi responded to Modi's recent remarks describing the opposition as an 'obstructionist camp'. Taking a swipe at the Prime Minister, the Congress leader accused him of misleading the people and questioned the nature of the support behind his political rise.
In a social media post, Rahul alleged that Narendra Modi became Prime Minister with foreign assistance and continues to depend on such support to remain in power. He further claimed that India's economic system was being controlled and supported by foreign interests.
Rahul also alleged that Modi enjoys backing from foreign social media platforms. However, he did not provide specific evidence or detailed information to substantiate these claims in his post.
Rahul Throws Open Debate Challenge to Modi
Taking his criticism further, Rahul Gandhi directly challenged the Prime Minister to face him in a public debate.
"Come to any platform, at any time. If you have the courage, come forward and debate," Rahul said, throwing an open challenge to Modi.
His remarks are being seen as a direct response to the Prime Minister's criticism of the opposition's role in Parliament and national politics.
Political Row Over Opposition's Role
The latest confrontation follows Modi's recent criticism of opposition parties. The Prime Minister had accused the opposition of focusing on creating obstacles rather than playing a constructive role in the country's political and parliamentary processes.
Rahul Gandhi's response has added another dimension to the ongoing political dispute. While the Prime Minister questioned the opposition's approach, the Congress leader has shifted the focus towards allegations of foreign influence and the need for a public debate.
The exchange has once again highlighted the growing political differences between the BJP and Congress.
As of now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not publicly responded to Rahul Gandhi's latest allegations or his challenge for an open debate. Whether the exchange leads to a direct political confrontation between the two leaders remains to be seen.
