JSW Inspire has denied reports that members of India’s men’s cricket team faced problems receiving properly sized kits ahead of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The Indian men’s cricket team left for Japan on Sunday, with Shreyas Iyer set to lead the side. India will begin its Asian Games campaign on September 28. Reports had claimed that some players had not received kits in the required sizes, leading to confusion between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the kit supplier.
JSW Inspire, which is providing performance kits for the Indian contingent, said there were no such issues with the cricket teams.
A spokesperson said the kits for both the men’s and women’s cricket teams had been handed over to their respective team managers well in advance. The managers, the company said, had confirmed that the kits were in order.
The men’s team is scheduled to wear the JSW Inspire kit when travelling from Tokyo to Nagoya on September 26.
India will also play a one-off T20 match against Japan on September 22. The team will wear a different jersey for that match before switching to the Asian Games kit.
The clarification came amid wider controversy surrounding the Indian contingent’s ceremonial clothing during the opening ceremony.
India’s shot-putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor was originally selected as one of the country’s flag-bearers alongside Manu Bhaker. However, he was replaced at the last minute by kabaddi player Pawan Sehrawat.
The IOA said Toor could not serve as flag-bearer because of “technical issues”. Some reports subsequently claimed that he had been unable to participate after not receiving his ceremonial kit in time.
JSW Inspire clarified that the ceremonial kit was not its responsibility. The company said it had only been responsible for supplying performance kits to the respective sports federations and had done so in phases.
The clarification is expected to settle questions surrounding the cricket teams’ preparations ahead of their Asian Games campaign. India’s men’s side will have a short window to prepare before its opening match on September 28, while the women’s team will also compete in the tournament.
The Asian Games cricket competition will be played in the T20 format, with India aiming to make an impact after arriving in Japan with a squad led by Iyer.
