Singer Armaan Malik has come out in support of his brother Amaal Mallik after a social media dispute over credits involving Salman Khan Films.
The controversy began after Salman Khan Films shared a post marking 11 years of the song “Main Hoon Hero Tera” from the 2015 film Hero. The song was sung by Salman Khan and composed by Amaal Mallik, with lyrics by Kumaar.
Amaal reacted strongly in the comments section of the post, questioning why the composer and lyricist were not mentioned in the anniversary post. He said the song had been created through the hard work of its makers and argued that the people behind it should receive proper recognition.
He also asked the social media team to correct the omission and said he wanted Salman Khan to see his comment.
Following Amaal’s criticism, the post was edited and Amaal’s Instagram account was added.
The controversy soon spread to X, where some users criticised the Mallik brothers and accused them of being ungrateful towards Salman Khan.
Armaan responded to one such comment, firmly rejecting the accusation. He said he had always been grateful for the opportunities that helped him begin his career, but added that artists also need to speak up when they feel their rightful credits are being ignored.
Armaan said the issue was not about gratitude but about acknowledging the people responsible for creating a song. He also defended the lyricist, saying that without the composer and lyric writer, the song would not have been what it was.
In another response, Armaan clarified that he was primarily concerned about ensuring that his brother and the lyricist received proper credit. He added that he had stopped expecting recognition for himself and appreciated the support from listeners.
The dispute has attracted attention because of Amaal’s long association with Salman Khan’s films. Amaal made his Bollywood debut as a composer with Jai Ho in 2014 and later worked on several successful projects.
He gained wider recognition with songs such as “Sooraj Dooba Hai” and went on to compose music for films including Hero, Airlift, Kapoor & Sons, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kabir Singh and Vedaa.
Amaal, the son of composer Daboo Malik and nephew of Anu Malik, has also released several independent songs during his career.
Last month, he announced that he would take a temporary break from composing for films.
The latest social media exchange has once again highlighted the importance of credits for composers and lyricists in the Hindi film industry.
