Trump Congratulates Democrats on Midterm Victory, Warns of Sweeping Vetoes

US President Donald Trump has congratulated the Democratic Party on its victory in both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections. However, alongside his congratulatory message, Trump issued a warning to the opposition, saying he could use his veto power against legislation if Democrats refused to cooperate with his administration.

In a telephone interview with CBS News, Trump said he expected Democrats to work with him. However, he made it clear that a lack of cooperation could lead to political confrontation. "I think they're going to want to work with me. If they don't, I'll veto everything," Trump said, adding that Democrats would not want such a situation.

The election results represent a significant political setback for the Republicans and create a new challenge for the Trump administration. With Democrats controlling both the House of Representatives and the Senate, the balance of power in Washington has shifted, potentially making it more difficult for the White House to advance its legislative priorities.

Reflecting on the Republican losses, Trump blamed his absence from the ballot for the party's poor performance. He argued that the outcome would have been different if he had personally been a candidate in the election.

"I thought I wasn't on the ballot. There was nothing I could do about that. If I had been running, we would have won," Trump said during the interview.

The President also pointed to problems with candidate selection as another possible reason behind the Republican setbacks. According to him, some candidates failed to appeal to voters, while others did not have a close relationship with him.

Trump suggested that these factors may have discouraged some Republican supporters from turning out to vote. He said that certain voters were unhappy with the candidates chosen by the party and that some of those candidates were not his friends. He also expressed disappointment that sections of the Republican support base did not show sufficient enthusiasm during the election.

Asked whether he was disappointed with the results, Trump maintained that he had made every possible effort to help his party. He insisted that he had given his best and campaigned with full commitment.

The Democratic victory in both chambers could have major implications for the remaining two years of Trump's administration. Control of Congress gives Democrats greater influence over legislation, government spending and oversight of executive decisions.

The situation could lead to increased political friction between the White House and congressional Democrats. Important policy proposals may face stronger opposition, while disagreements over government funding and national priorities could become more frequent.

Trump's warning about using his veto power signals that relations between the administration and the newly strengthened Democratic opposition could be difficult in the months ahead.
