News Desk: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sunetra Pawar has dismissed reports of internal differences within the party following its disappointing performance in the recent Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. She maintained that there was no internal rift among party leaders and said the electoral setback would be followed by a process of self-introspection.
Speaking on Friday, Sunetra Pawar said, "There was no rift among us. Whenever there is an election, victory and defeat happen. If there is a defeat, there is a need for self-introspection. We will definitely do self-introspection."
Her remarks came days after the NCP suffered a major setback in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. The party's candidate, three-time sitting MLC Satish Chavan, lost the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Graduates' constituency to Pratapsinh Patil of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar). The defeat has raised questions about the ruling party's electoral performance and its organisational strength.
Reacting to the victory, NCP (SP) leader Pratapsinh Patil said that a "100 per cent wave of change" was sweeping across Maharashtra. He claimed that educated voters had sent a strong message through their mandate and indicated that the electorate could no longer be taken for granted.
The results covered five constituencies: Pune Graduates, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Graduates, Nagpur Graduates, Pune Teachers and Amravati Teachers. The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) secured three seats, while the ruling Mahayuti alliance managed to win two.
The results also highlighted the growing electoral presence of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) in the graduates' constituencies. Meanwhile, the BJP and Shiv Sena registered victories in the teachers' constituencies.
The outcome was a setback for the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, which failed to retain the constituency it contested. The defeat of Satish Chavan, in particular, has added to concerns about the party's political position and support among educated voters.
Despite speculation about internal differences, Sunetra Pawar has sought to project unity within the organisation. Her statement suggests that the party leadership intends to examine the reasons behind the defeat and assess its future political strategy ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
