New Delhi, October 10, 2026: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced that its planned protest at Jantar Mantar will continue despite the detention of its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, and party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. Ajinkya Shinde, the party’s organisation in-charge, will lead the demonstration, Dipke said in a pre-recorded video message.
Dipke had recorded the video on Friday night amid concerns that he could be detained. According to the party, Shinde will take charge of the protest for as long as Dipke, Das and Ranka remain in custody. The announcement signals the party’s intention to proceed with its planned demonstration despite the absence of its top leadership.
CJP Leaders Detained After Arriving in Delhi
On Saturday, police reportedly detained Dipke and the two other CJP leaders after they arrived in Delhi by flight. They had planned to participate in a demonstration at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and demand his resignation.
Delhi Police had denied permission for the proposed protest in advance. Security arrangements were subsequently tightened across several parts of the national capital, with barricades and additional checks introduced at key locations.
The detentions have become a major point of contention as the party seeks to mobilise its supporters for the demonstration.
SIR at the Centre of the Protest
One of the key issues behind the CJP’s campaign is the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Protesters have raised concerns about the Election Commission’s role in the process and called for greater transparency and accountability in the electoral system.
Through his pre-recorded message, Dipke sought to communicate that the party’s plans would not change even if its senior leaders remained detained.
Attention is now focused on Ajinkya Shinde’s leadership and whether the planned demonstration will proceed amid the restrictions imposed by Delhi Police.
With permission for the protest denied and security heightened across the capital, uncertainty remains over how the planned programme at Jantar Mantar will unfold.
