Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi have registered a case against 31 people and some unidentified individuals for allegedly submitting forged affidavits and misleading the court in connection with a 2020 gangrape case.
The FIR was registered at Unj police station following an order by Chief Judicial Magistrate Anand Mishra on Tuesday. The action came after the survivor approached the court on June 6, 2026, alleging that officials had assisted the accused and that false documents were used to suppress her statement.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Shubham Agrawal, the case has been registered under relevant provisions concerning false statements and evidence, criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery under the erstwhile Indian Penal Code.
The original incident dates back to 2020, when a 45-year-old woman working as a labourer alleged that several men entered her house in a village under Unj police station, threatened her with weapons and sexually assaulted her. She named Manoj, Arvind and five others in her complaint.
An FIR was subsequently registered under sections 376D and 506 of the IPC, and an investigation was launched.
Police said a chargesheet was initially filed along with affidavits submitted on behalf of the accused. However, the survivor’s statement was allegedly not recorded and she was not subjected to a medical examination.
The court later ordered a fresh investigation after the woman challenged the handling of the case. During the second investigation, police allegedly relied on fabricated affidavits, including documents that purportedly did not carry the signatures of any advocate. A closure report was subsequently submitted before the court on October 30, 2021.
The woman continued to oppose the closure report and alleged that the investigation had failed to properly address her claims. The court eventually recorded her statement under Section 200 of the IPC and found prima facie merit in her allegations, allowing prosecution proceedings to continue.
In her latest complaint, the survivor alleged that officials had helped the accused and used forged affidavits to mislead the court and prevent her statement from being properly considered. She also claimed that the developments had caused social humiliation for her and her children.
Following her complaint, the magistrate directed the Unj police to register a fresh case against Rajpati Bind and 30 other named individuals, along with unidentified persons.
Police said the matter is now under detailed investigation, with authorities examining the alleged forgery, conspiracy and the circumstances surrounding the earlier investigation and closure report.
