Manoj Bajpayee’s Gandhi look grabs attention

Manoj Bajpayee is all set to portray Mahatma Gandhi on screen for the first time in filmmaker Sudhir Mishra’s upcoming historical drama. The makers unveiled the actor’s first look on Sunday, giving audiences a glimpse of his striking transformation into one of India’s most iconic figures.

In the released images, Bajpayee appears almost unrecognisable as Gandhi. He is seen with a bald head, wearing a traditional loincloth and carrying Gandhi’s trademark walking stick. The actor’s appearance has been carefully designed to capture the simplicity and distinctive look associated with the Father of the Nation.

The images also show Gandhi surrounded by other freedom fighters. In one frame, a banner carrying the words ‘Long Live Mahatma Gandhi’ can be seen in the background, adding to the historical atmosphere of the scene.

The upcoming film is being directed by Sudhir Mishra, known for acclaimed films such as Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Dharavi. Saurabh Shukla is also part of the cast in a key role. However, the makers have not yet revealed the official title or release date of the film.

According to details cited in an ANI report, the story is based on a lesser-known 21-day period from India’s freedom struggle. The filmmakers have kept much of the project under wraps, but have described it as an immersive story exploring the emotional and human side of a major historical turning point.

The film is produced by Anubhav Sinha and Narendra Hirawat under the banner of Benaras Mediaworks and presented by NH Studioz.

For Bajpayee, the project marks another interesting addition to a career known for challenging and varied performances. The National Award-winning actor has frequently taken on complex characters across films and web series, earning praise for his ability to disappear into his roles.

Bajpayee will also soon be seen in Last Man in Tower, alongside Boman Irani and Divya Dutta. Directed by Ben Rekhi and produced by Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media, the film is based on Aravind Adiga’s novel of the same name and marks Bajpayee’s first on-screen collaboration with Boman Irani. It is scheduled to release in cinemas across India on September 11.

Meanwhile, audiences are waiting to see how Bajpayee brings Gandhi’s personality and struggles to life in Sudhir Mishra’s historical drama. The newly released first look has already sparked curiosity around the untitled project.
