Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host world leaders in New Delhi as India prepares for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13. The two-day summit will feature closed-door discussions, an innovation exhibition, a family photo, a joint tree plantation and a gala dinner hosted by Modi.
The first day, Saturday, September 12, will begin with the arrival of BRICS leaders at 2 pm. At 2:35 pm, leaders will attend a closed session focused on multilateralism, followed by the Bharat Innovates Exhibition at 4:25 pm.
A family photo is scheduled for 5:05 pm, followed by a joint tree plantation at 5:10 pm. The day will conclude with a gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Modi at 7:30 pm.
On Sunday, September 13, partner-country and outreach leaders are scheduled to arrive at 9:55 am. A family photo will take place at 10:35 am, followed by an open session on inclusive global growth at 10:50 am.
The summit is expected to bring together leaders from BRICS member countries on the opening day, while partner countries and outreach invitees will join the proceedings on the second day.
Delhi airport prepares for increased traffic
With a large number of international delegations expected in the capital, Delhi airport authorities have stepped up preparations to manage increased passenger and flight movement.
Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has arranged dedicated immigration counters for BRICS participants and made preparations for aircraft landing and parking.
Pier C at Terminal 3 will be progressively operationalised for international flight operations from the night of September 9. International arrivals will be handled through the pier, while both international arrivals and departures are planned from the evening of September 10.
DIAL CEO Pradeep Panicker said the airport had undertaken comprehensive preparations in coordination with security and operational agencies to handle the expected increase in international traffic while maintaining passenger safety and convenience.
The summit comes as Delhi is also preparing for increased security and traffic restrictions. Authorities have issued advisories for commuters, with several roads expected to face diversions during VIP movements and motorcade rehearsals.
The BRICS gathering will place New Delhi at the centre of high-level diplomatic discussions for two days, with leaders expected to deliberate on global and economic issues as India hosts the summit.
