Inspired by the legendary journey of Lord Ram from Rameswaram to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana, a 30-year-old man from Noida has completed an extraordinary 2,500-kilometre cycling expedition ahead of Diwali. Sarthak Chauhan covered the distance in just 16 days, travelling through seven states before reaching Ayodhya.
Speaking about his journey, Chauhan said this was the third consecutive year he had undertaken the expedition. He described the experience as a wonderful opportunity to explore India's cultural diversity and traditions.
According to Chauhan, he begins his journey every year on Dussehra after offering prayers at Rameswaram and aims to reach Ayodhya in time for Deepotsav, the grand festival of lights. He draws inspiration from the journey associated with Lord Ram, who returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana.
"I cycled 2,500 kilometres from Rameswaram to Ayodhya in 16 days, crossing seven states. Like Lord Ram, who began his journey after Dussehra and arrived in Ayodhya in time for Diwali, I, too, set out on the same path," he said.
Unlike previous years, when he travelled with his cycling team, Chauhan decided to complete the expedition alone this time. However, he has bigger plans for the next edition.
He revealed that around 50 cyclists are part of his team and that he hopes to bring them together for the journey next year. Interestingly, people from countries such as Canada and England have also expressed interest in joining the expedition.
Chauhan also spoke about his experience travelling through Uttar Pradesh, particularly praising the law and order situation. He said the improved sense of security gave him the confidence to travel alone with his belongings, without constantly worrying about his safety.
He expressed happiness at reaching Ayodhya and witnessing the growing scale of Deepotsav celebrations.
"It is truly heartening to see this. Deepotsav is no longer just a celebration for Uttar Pradesh; it has truly become a festival for the entire India," he said.
For Chauhan, the expedition is much more than a long-distance cycling challenge. It is a journey of faith, devotion and cultural exploration, connecting two places deeply associated with the story of Lord Ram.
