A woman biker was injured in a suspected road rage incident on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road after a car allegedly chased and rammed her motorcycle on Sunday morning. The incident came to light after the woman, identified as Sia, shared videos of the incident on social media, prompting Gurugram Police to take cognisance of the matter.
Sia, who runs the Instagram page ‘rebelwheels_sia_’, said she was riding her Aprilia sports bike separately from a group of friends when a white sedan came dangerously close to her. According to her account, the driver signalled her to stop and continued following her on the road.
She said she asked the driver to maintain a safe distance but alleged that he continued making hand gestures asking her to stop. Concerned about the situation, she tried to keep away from the vehicle.
“My friend tried to cover it during the ride so that the car could not approach me to intercept but it rammed me,” Sia said while describing the incident in a video shared online.
Footage recorded by cameras mounted on the motorcycles of Sia and her friends appears to show the collision. In the videos, Sia can be seen being dragged along the road for several feet after the car allegedly struck her motorcycle. Her bike skidded away following the impact.
One of her friends reportedly managed to intercept the car at a traffic signal. However, the driver allegedly accelerated away from the spot before the vehicle could be stopped. Sia also shared the registration details of the car on social media.
She alleged that the occupants of the car were drunk, although this claim has not been independently verified by the police. The video and her account quickly circulated online, bringing the incident to the attention of the Gurugram Police social media cell.
Sandeep Turan, public relations officer of Gurugram Police, said authorities were verifying the details of the incident. Police are also examining the video footage to establish the exact location of the crash and determine which police station has jurisdiction over the matter.
Turan said there had been no alert to the police control room and that no written complaint had been received from the victim immediately after the incident. Police officials said they would try to contact Sia and obtain a written complaint so that an FIR could be registered and appropriate legal action taken against the driver.
The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and aggressive driving on Gurugram’s busy roads. The availability of camera footage may help investigators establish what happened before and during the collision.
Sia said the experience left her feeling unsafe while travelling on Gurugram roads. She appealed for accountability, saying that motorists should not be allowed to endanger other road users and flee after collisions.
Police action is now expected to depend on verification of the footage, identification of the vehicle and the formal complaint from the injured biker.
