Fresh threatening posts on Instagram have sparked fear among the family of slain Haryanvi singer Ankit Balyan, prompting Shamli police to strengthen security around them.
The threatening messages were uploaded by Instagram accounts carrying the name and photograph of wanted sharpshooter Satyam Kadyan, who is currently absconding in connection with Balyan’s murder. One post warned, “Two days, 48 hours… big surprise soon,” while another claimed that it was only the beginning and referred to possible blasts.
Other posts reportedly carried warnings such as “stay within your limits” and cautioned people against “flying bullets”. The messages have raised concerns about whether the accounts are genuinely being operated by Kadyan or by someone deliberately using his identity.
Police said they are investigating the source of the posts, the people operating the accounts and the digital footprints connected to the social media activity. Authorities are also examining whether the threats are intended to intimidate Balyan’s family or create confusion about the whereabouts of the wanted accused.
Shamli superintendent of police Narendra Pratap Singh said four additional policemen had been deployed to provide security to the Balyan family. Police vigilance has also been increased in view of the latest online activity.
The development comes days after 32-year-old Balyan was shot dead outside a gym in Shamli on August 26. According to police, the attackers surrounded him and fired around 18 rounds before fleeing the scene.
During the investigation, authorities identified more than 20 social media accounts on Instagram, Snapchat and other platforms using the names of Kadyan, another wanted accused Aryan Sandhu and members of the Gogi gang. Investigators are examining videos, photographs and status updates to determine which accounts are genuine and who is behind them.
Police are also checking whether Kadyan himself has been active online or whether fake accounts are being used in his name to mislead investigators and threaten the victim’s family.
Kadyan and Sandhu, both in their 20s, are currently absconding and each is linked to a ₹1 lakh reward. Two other accused shooters, Sumit, 24, and Mohit, 22, were killed in a police encounter on August 31.
Police teams have continued conducting raids in Haryana and Punjab, including areas such as Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat. Investigators are also checking information about possible movements through Chandigarh airport. Officials have learnt that Sandhu’s passport had expired and that he was reportedly attempting to renew it.
The investigation into both the murder and the latest online threats is continuing.
