BJP Criticises Rahul Gandhi Over PM Modi Mimicry at Indore Event

A political controversy has erupted between the BJP and Congress after a mimicry act involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi was performed during Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s event in Indore.

The incident took place at the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme, where comedian Pulkit Mani performed a short act. During the performance, Mani imitated Modi’s mannerisms and style of speaking, including references to the Prime Minister’s interactions with foreign leaders.

The performance also included references to Modi’s mother, his interactions with children and a coin trick. At one point, the comedian repeatedly used the phrase “my friend”, imitating the Prime Minister’s style of addressing foreign leaders. Rahul Gandhi was seen responding to the act and laughing during the programme.

The BJP subsequently criticised Gandhi over the incident. The party alleged that the performance mocked an interaction between Modi and an elderly woman at an earlier public event. The BJP said that such references were inappropriate and accused the Congress of crossing political and social boundaries.

Several BJP leaders also reacted to the video. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that political disagreements should not extend to remarks involving a mother. Union Education Minister Prahlad Joshi also criticised the incident, alleging that the event showed a lack of respect towards the Prime Minister’s family.

BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan also criticised Rahul Gandhi for sharing the stage with people involved in remarks that he described as insulting to women and an elderly person.

The controversy has emerged amid continuing political exchanges between the BJP and Congress, with both parties frequently targeting each other over speeches, public statements and campaign events.

The Congress has shared the video of the event as well, while the BJP has used portions of it to raise questions about the nature of political discourse at opposition programmes.

The incident has since triggered a fresh round of political reactions on social media, with BJP leaders demanding that Congress leaders respond to the criticism. The episode is likely to remain part of the ongoing political debate between the two parties.
