News Desk: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s crackdown on organised crime has resulted in reported property enforcement actions worth ₹15,233 crore under the Gangsters Act since he took office in March 2017. The state government has also completed and handed over 148 flats to economically weaker families on land recovered from properties linked to notorious gangster-politicians.
The figures highlight the state’s approach to tackling organised crime by attaching properties, demolishing illegal structures and using selected reclaimed plots for affordable housing. However, the total value of properties subjected to enforcement action should not be confused with the value of assets finally confiscated by the government.
the cumulative value of property-related action increased from ₹1,800 crore in August 2021 to ₹9,022.33 crore in March 2023. It rose further to ₹11,841 crore by August 2023 and ₹14,246 crore by the end of 2024, reaching ₹15,233 crore in October 2026.
These figures include property attachment, demolition and final confiscation. Attachment places property under legal control pending proceedings, while final confiscation transfers ownership to the government following the required legal process.
148 Flats Built on Recovered Land
Two completed housing projects have become prominent examples of the state’s effort to use recovered land for public welfare.
In Lukarganj, Prayagraj, 76 flats were constructed by the Prayagraj Development Authority under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban. The project was built on land recovered from the network of late gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed. The keys were handed over to beneficiaries on June 30, 2023, at a reported project cost of around ₹6.6 crore.
In Dalibagh, Lucknow, another 72 economically weaker section flats were constructed by the Lucknow Development Authority on approximately 2,322 square metres of land linked to Mukhtar Ansari and his family. Allotment letters were distributed on November 5, 2025. Each flat measures 36.65 square metres and is priced at ₹10.70 lakh.
Together, these two projects account for 148 completed flats handed over to eligible families.
1,200 More Homes Planned in Prayagraj
The next major housing project is planned at Kasari-Masari in Prayagraj. On October 15, 2026, Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone for a project comprising 1,200 homes under the Padmalok Awas Yojana.
The development will be completed in two phases, with 602 homes in the first phase and 598 in the second. The land was reportedly reclaimed from the network associated with Atiq Ahmed.
Once the project is completed, the total number of homes built on gangster-linked land is expected to reach 1,348.
Legal Proceedings Remain a Key Factor
Despite the scale of the enforcement campaign, the process of converting seized properties into completed housing remains gradual. Some properties remain tied up in litigation, while others are used for roads, parks and police facilities.
A consolidated public register distinguishing attached properties, final confiscations, demolitions and completed housing projects is still being assembled.
The next major milestone will be the completion of the Kasari-Masari housing project, which could expand the state’s effort to turn recovered land into affordable homes for economically weaker families.
