Yash’s mother, Pushpa Arunkumar, has strongly defended her son’s journey to stardom after an old remark by veteran producer Allu Aravind resurfaced online. Aravind’s 2023 comment, “Who was Yash before KGF?”, has once again attracted attention amid the buzz surrounding Yash’s latest film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups.
Speaking at a recent press meet, Pushpa made it clear that her son had already established himself in Kannada cinema long before the KGF franchise turned him into a pan-India star. She highlighted his years of work and successful films, saying his rise was the result of sustained effort rather than overnight fame.
“Before KGF, Yash delivered five back-to-back hits,” Pushpa said. She added that there was no reason to question who he was before KGF, pointing out that he had already earned a strong following through his work in Kannada films.
Pushpa also spoke proudly about Yash’s humble beginnings. She noted that her son was not born into wealth and described him as the son of a bus driver who worked his way to the top.
“As a mother, I am proud of him,” she said, emphasising that Yash built his position through years of hard work and successful films.
The controversy surrounding Aravind’s remark is not new. Yash had previously addressed the issue during an appearance on Rajat Sharma’s Aap Ki Adalat. At the time, the actor stressed that the success of a film cannot be attributed to just one person. He acknowledged the contribution of directors, writers, supporting actors and other members of a film’s team.
However, Yash also said that the lead actor carries significant responsibility because audiences often associate a film’s success with its main star. He credited viewers for recognising quality work and deciding which films succeed.
Meanwhile, Yash’s Toxic, directed by Geetu Mohandas, continues to generate discussion. The film, which also stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria, was released on August 26 across multiple languages.
Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film crossed the ₹200 crore mark in India within five days, according to the report. It is now aiming for a ₹300 crore worldwide milestone.
