Delhi Police Seeks To Stop Tiranga March

New Delhi, October 16: Delhi Police has urged Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke to call off his proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place, citing concerns over law and order. Ahead of the planned rally on Friday, police said they were preparing to block all entry points to Central Park while allowing traffic and pedestrian movement through the inner and outer circles of Connaught Place.

A police team also visited the place where Dipke is staying to inform him verbally about prohibitory orders imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The orders are in force in the New Delhi area. Police appealed to him to cancel the march and cooperate in maintaining peace and public order.

The proposed rally has drawn attention amid heightened security arrangements in the national capital. Police personnel were deployed near Palika Bazar and other parts of Connaught Place ahead of the demonstration. Authorities are planning to restrict access to Central Park, the proposed venue, while ensuring that normal movement through the busy commercial district is not completely disrupted.

The CJP livestreamed a tense exchange between Dipke and Delhi Police personnel as officers attempted to persuade him to abandon the march. During the conversation, Dipke questioned the police action and asked an officer how unfolding the national flag could be considered unlawful.

The exchange highlighted the disagreement between the organisers and the authorities over the proposed gathering. While Dipke questioned the restrictions on the planned Tiranga march, police maintained that their priority was to prevent any disturbance and ensure compliance with the prohibitory orders.

Connaught Place is one of Delhi’s busiest commercial and public spaces, attracting shoppers, office-goers and visitors throughout the day. Any restrictions around Central Park could therefore affect access to the area, although police have indicated that traffic and pedestrian movement along the inner and outer circles would be allowed to continue.

The situation remained tense as police sought to convince the CJP founder to call off the rally. The authorities’ proposed blockade of Central Park is aimed at preventing the gathering from taking place at the designated location without bringing regular movement in Connaught Place to a standstill.

Further details about the police arrangements and the CJP’s next course of action were awaited.
