Two DU Students Allegedly Harassed by Men in SUV in Delhi

Two Delhi University students were allegedly stalked and sexually harassed by a group of men travelling in an SUV near Hakikat Park in north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.

The two women, who are pursuing their first year of MA, were walking along the road around 9.30pm when at least four men in a Tata Safari allegedly got into an argument with them over giving way to the vehicle.

According to police, the men allegedly verbally abused the students, made indecent remarks and followed them for some distance before leaving the area. One of the students later approached the Mukherjee Nagar police station and submitted a written complaint regarding the alleged incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Akanksha Yadav said police immediately began an inquiry following the complaint. During the investigation, officers traced the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident through its registration number, DL11CF4447.

Police said the vehicle was registered to a particular owner and that a man identified as Naman was allegedly driving it at the time. He was reportedly accompanied by two or three other people.

“We have identified the four alleged accused and teams are conducting raids to arrest them,” DCP Yadav said. Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.

The incident comes just two days after a separate alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl inside Aastha Kunj Park in south Delhi. According to police, the girl was visiting the park with a 17-year-old male friend on her birthday when three men allegedly threatened them at gunpoint after posing as police personnel.

The two incidents, occurring within a short period, have brought renewed attention to safety concerns among women and students in Delhi.

Police are continuing efforts to locate and arrest the men allegedly involved in the Mukherjee Nagar incident. Investigators are also examining the circumstances surrounding the complaint and questioning those who may have information about the incident.
