India on Saturday strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations over its alleged support for cross-border terrorism, while several other major developments unfolded across politics, international affairs, sports and entertainment.
Speaking at the UN, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Petal Gahlot accused Pakistan of following a long-standing policy of cross-border terrorism. She said India had the right to defend itself against terrorism and warned that such actions would have consequences.
Gahlot also accused Islamabad of repeatedly making claims that New Delhi disputes. India’s remarks came after Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif raised the issue of India-Pakistan relations during his UN address.
Sharif credited US President Donald Trump for what he described as a “timely intervention” during the four-day military confrontation between India and Pakistan in May 2025. He said the two nuclear-armed neighbours had been close to a wider conflict at the time.
Sharif also warned that any attempt to stop, impede or divert Pakistan’s share of the Indus River waters would be treated by Islamabad as an “act of war”. India, however, has maintained that the ceasefire following the May 2025 confrontation was reached through direct communication between the two countries and has rejected the suggestion that a third party brokered the agreement.
Meanwhile, a case involving the management of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya has also drawn attention. Former Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust trustee Anil Kumar Mishra and former general secretary Champat Rai have been listed as prosecution witnesses in a chargesheet concerning alleged irregularities in the handling of devotees’ donations.
The chargesheet, filed before a special Anti-Corruption Court in Ayodhya on September 23, reportedly contains 133 prosecution witnesses. Former interim general secretary Krishna Mohan and former special invitee member Gopal M Nagarkatte are also among those listed.
In entertainment, Nani-starrer The Paradise has seen its ratings and reviews disabled on BookMyShow following mixed responses after its theatrical release. The film, directed by Srikanth Odela, opened in theatres on Thursday after paid premieres on Wednesday. It recorded a strong opening for Nani but witnessed a decline in collections on Friday amid mixed reviews.
In sports, India’s Sawan Barwal produced a notable performance at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. The Indian marathon runner won the silver medal after clocking 2:11:37, improving his own national record.
Japan’s Ichitaka Yamashita won gold with a time of 2:10:49, while China’s Peiyou Feng finished third in 2:12:13.
Barwal’s silver marked India’s first Asian Games marathon medal since Hosur Kukkappa Seetharan won bronze at the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi.
The result added another significant moment to India’s campaign at the ongoing Asian Games, with athletes continuing to compete across multiple disciplines.
