News Desk: Actor Zayed Khan has opened up about his long relationship with wife Malaika Parekh, revealing that her bold and independent personality played a major role in making him fall even harder for her.
Zayed and Malaika have known each other since their school days and eventually married in 2005. Speaking about the early days of their relationship, Zayed has described Malaika as someone who was not easy to impress. He recalled that it took him time even to make eye contact with her because she was a “tough girl to woo.”
For Zayed, however, that challenge was part of the attraction. Rather than simply being about physical chemistry, he was drawn to Malaika’s confidence, personality and willingness to take charge. Their relationship developed over several years before they decided to marry.
Zayed has previously described meeting Malaika as love at first sight. He recalled seeing her and immediately feeling that she was the person he wanted to marry, even before they had properly spoken. That initial attraction eventually grew into a relationship that has lasted for more than two decades.
Their wedding itself also reflected Malaika’s adventurous side. Before their much larger wedding celebration, the couple secretly got married in Goa in a private ceremony attended by close friends and family. Malaika arranged the ceremony, including the Hindu wedding rituals. Zayed later recalled that he was unfamiliar with many of the rituals and simply told her to lead the way.
The couple's relationship has also crossed religious and cultural boundaries. Zayed has spoken about how both families respected different faiths and traditions. He said religion never became a barrier between them and that their families celebrated festivals from different communities.
Zayed has also been candid about the pressures that came with his Bollywood career. He married at 25, when he was beginning to establish himself as an actor, and said several producers warned him that marriage could affect his career and fan following. He nevertheless chose to prioritise his personal life.
Today, Zayed and Malaika are parents to two sons. Their story suggests that lasting relationships require more than attraction or chemistry. Mutual respect, confidence, shared values and the ability to stand by each other through changing circumstances can be just as important.
For Zayed, it appears that Malaika’s daring personality was not merely something he admired at the beginning, it became one of the qualities that strengthened their bond over the years.
