President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings to Indian Air Force personnel, veterans and their families on the occasion of the 94th Air Force Day, praising their courage, professionalism and commitment to protecting the country.
President Murmu said the Indian Air Force has rendered exemplary service to the nation while maintaining high standards of professionalism, discipline and preparedness. She also highlighted the role of the IAF during Operation Sindoor, saying the operation demonstrated the courage, precision and operational preparedness of Indian air warriors.
Murmu also acknowledged the force's contribution during natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies. She said the dedication of IAF personnel remains a source of inspiration and pride for the country and wished the force continued success in maintaining its legacy of service.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the country's air warriors by sharing a video highlighting the Indian Air Force. He said India remains proud of its air warriors and saluted their courage and commitment to protecting the nation's skies.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his greetings on Air Force Day and paid tribute to personnel who have sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation. Shah praised the courage, precision and operational capabilities of IAF personnel and described them as India's "warriors of the skies".
The Air Force Day celebrations come amid renewed attention on the IAF's operational capabilities following Operation Sindoor in 2025. Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh said earlier on Thursday that the operation demonstrated the speed with which the Indian Air Force could move into combat operations.
The Air Chief also stressed the importance of training, preparedness and the integration of emerging technologies into modern military operations. The IAF is increasingly exploring artificial intelligence, autonomous systems and digital technologies to improve decision-making and operational effectiveness.
Indian Air Force Day is observed every year on October 8 to mark the establishment of the force in 1932. The occasion honours the contribution of serving personnel, veterans and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the country.
The celebrations this year therefore combined tributes to the IAF's history with recognition of its evolving role in India's national security. From combat operations and air defence to disaster relief and humanitarian assistance, the force continues to perform a wide range of responsibilities.
