Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met the Bharatiya Janata Party’s newly formed team of office-bearers at the party headquarters in New Delhi. The meeting came shortly after the BJP passed a resolution defending the honour and historical legacy of ‘Vande Mataram’ and announced plans for a nationwide campaign highlighting the National Song’s history and significance.
Modi was welcomed by BJP president Nitin Nabin. A video shared by news agency ANI showed the Prime Minister and Nabin posing with the newly appointed office-bearers of the party.
The BJP announced its 65-member national team on August 17, with 51 new faces included in the organisational revamp. The reshuffle brought several prominent leaders into key responsibilities, including former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje and former Union minister Smriti Irani. Other notable names in the new team include Kavita Patidar, K Surendran, Manoj Tigga and Sandeep Pathak.
The new BJP leadership is also placing a strong emphasis on reaching out to young people. During a meeting with the newly appointed office-bearers earlier on Saturday, Nitin Nabin asked party leaders to focus on “Yuva Samvad”, aimed at maintaining continuous engagement with the younger generation.
According to reports, the BJP is preparing several youth outreach programmes and is discussing ways to connect with people aged 14 and above. Dedicated teams comprising senior leaders from different parts of the country are expected to be formed for the initiative. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha will assist in constituting and mobilising these teams, while former national office-bearers are also expected to play a role.
The meeting also followed a major political development over ‘Vande Mataram’. The BJP passed a resolution opposing the Congress Working Committee’s decision to follow its 1937 position and restrict the singing of the National Song to its first two stanzas at party programmes.
The BJP said the historical legacy of ‘Vande Mataram’ should be protected and argued that its significance should not be reduced to contemporary political considerations. The party also criticised the Congress, saying that a political decision taken in 1937 cannot take precedence over constitutional and legislative developments that followed Independence.
The BJP has announced a nationwide campaign to educate people about the history and significance of ‘Vande Mataram’, making the issue an important part of its current political and organisational agenda.
