IIT Delhi Student Dies After Fall From Sixth Floor

New Delhi: A 31-year-old MSc Physics student died after falling from the sixth floor of a lecture hall complex at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi campus on Saturday morning. Police are investigating the incident and have not found any suicide note so far.

According to police, the Kishangarh police station received information about the incident through the police control room at around 8:33 am. A police team immediately reached the IIT Delhi campus and found the student seriously injured. He was taken to the campus hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The initial investigation suggests that the student entered the IIT Delhi campus through the main gate at around 8 am. He then went to the lecture hall complex and took an elevator to the sixth floor. Police suspect that he subsequently jumped from the building.

Investigators have not found any signs of ante-mortem injuries on the student's body, according to the preliminary probe. A mobile phone was recovered from his pocket. Police have also obtained his counselling records and are examining information provided by the IIT Delhi administration as part of the investigation.

Officials are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the student's death. The exact reason behind the incident has not yet been established.

IIT Delhi expressed deep sorrow over the death of the student. In a statement, the institute said it was mourning the "tragic and untimely demise" of an M.Sc. student on August 22. The institute said that the Delhi Police are investigating the incident and offered condolences to the student's family.

IIT Delhi also said it was extending all possible support to the bereaved family during this difficult time.

Police are expected to examine the student's phone, counselling records and other available information to understand the events leading up to the incident. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
